Embracing My New Shape
It’s a funny thing, isn’t it? One minute you’re fitting into your favourite jeans, the next you’re staring at a wardrobe full of clothes that just don’t feel right. My body has definitely gone through a transformation since having kids, and honestly, it took me a while to get used to it. The old me would have panicked, but I’m learning to see this new shape as something to be proud of.
Letting Go Of Old Clothes
For ages, I kept a pile of clothes that were ‘goal clothes’. You know, the ones that fit perfectly before pregnancy. Every time I tried them on and they didn’t quite zip up, it felt like a personal failure. It was exhausting. So, I finally did it. I packed them all away. Letting go of those ‘pre-baby’ clothes was surprisingly freeing. It wasn’t about giving up on myself, but about acknowledging that my body has done something incredible and it deserves clothes that fit and feel good now.
Wearing Whatever I Want
This is a big one for me. I used to be so self-conscious, avoiding certain outfits or even photos. But I realised I was missing out. Life with kids is fleeting, and I didn’t want to look back and regret hiding away. Now, I try to wear what makes me happy, even if it’s not what I would have chosen before. It’s a work in progress, but choosing comfort and joy over perceived flaws has made a huge difference. It’s about dressing for the body I have, not the one I used to have.
Finding the Love In The Changes
Appreciating My Pregnancy Body
It’s easy to forget the incredible journey my body went on. Growing a whole human is no small feat. I’m trying to look at my body not as something that’s ‘gone wrong’, but as something that achieved something amazing. Those marks, the softness, the new curves – they’re a testament to that. It’s a different kind of beautiful, one I’m slowly learning to see.
Loving My Stretch Marks
Honestly, I used to dread stretch marks. But now? I see them differently. They’re like little silver lines, a map of where my babies grew. It sounds a bit cheesy, but they remind me of the strength and resilience I have. They’re part of my story, and I’m starting to think they’re rather beautiful.
Focusing On What My Body Can Do
My body might not look the same, but it’s still incredibly capable. It carried my children, it birthed them, and now it keeps them safe and loved. It’s strong enough to chase toddlers, lift heavy shopping bags, and give the best cuddles. Shifting my focus from how it looks to what it does has been a game changer. It’s a powerful machine, and I’m learning to be grateful for that.
It’s okay to not feel ‘back to normal’ straight away. Motherhood changes you, and that’s not a bad thing. Give yourself time and kindness as you adjust to your new self.
Reclaiming My Identity
Colouring My Hair
After months of focusing on everyone else, I decided it was time for a little ‘me’ project. I’d always been a bit of a ‘natural’ sort, but after having the kids, I felt this urge to do something completely different. So, I booked myself a salon appointment and went for a vibrant shade of blue. It felt like a small act of rebellion, a way to remind myself that I’m still here, still me, just with a few more responsibilities (and a lot less sleep).
Buying Fancy Lingerie
This one felt a bit indulgent, I’ll admit. My old bras were functional, but let’s be honest, they weren’t exactly inspiring. I treated myself to some really lovely, well-fitting lingerie. It’s not about anyone else seeing it; it’s about how it makes me feel. Knowing I’ve got something pretty underneath my everyday clothes gives me a little boost, a secret confidence.
Checking Out My Lady Parts
This might sound a bit odd, but after giving birth, I was honestly a bit scared to look. There’s so much talk about how your body is ‘ruined’ or permanently changed. But I decided to approach it differently this time. I spent time really looking, not with judgment, but with curiosity and gratitude. My body did something incredible. It grew and nurtured a human. Seeing myself, really seeing myself, felt like a powerful act of self-acceptance. It’s a reminder of the amazing things my body is capable of.
Embracing the New Me
So, there you have it. My body has definitely gone through the wringer, and honestly, it’s still a bit of a work in progress. Some days are better than others, and that’s okay. I’m learning to let go of the old me and really appreciate this new version. It’s not about perfection, it’s about acceptance and finding joy in the everyday. These changes are a reminder of the incredible journey I’ve been on, and I’m slowly but surely learning to love the woman I’ve become, bumps, stretch marks, and all. It’s a process, but one I’m finally ready to embrace.
